Dr. Papoulas: Leading Expert in General and Transplant Surgery
Dr. Papoulas is a distinguished General Surgeon with extensive training in Israel and the United Kingdom. He holds dual subspecialties in Hepatobiliary Surgery and Transplantation, obtained from the prestigious King’s College Hospital. His clinical expertise spans laparoscopic surgery, surgical oncology, and transplantation. Since 2020, Dr. Papoulas has served as the Lead Transplant Surgeon at the Department of Transplantation at Nicosia General Hospital.
A passionate academic, Dr. Papoulas has contributed significantly to medical literature, with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences. He also plays a pivotal role in education as a surgical tutor for Year 4 medical students at the University of Nicosia.
Dr. Papoulas achieved several milestones in Cyprus, becoming the first surgeon to perform a pure laparoscopic donor nephrectomy, which is now the standard practice. He also pioneered transnational and national paired exchange kidney transplantation, offering new hope to incompatible donor-recipient pairs. Additionally, he is the only surgeon in Cyprus performing laparoscopic major hepatectomies and pancreatectomies. Renowned for handling complex abdominal surgeries, including those requiring vascular reconstructions and sarcoma management, Dr. Papoulas is a trusted referral specialist at the national level.
